Client: Chicago Bears Project: "Being a Bear" Purpose: To visually communicate a sense of the deep roots and tradition of the Chicago Bears organization to both new and veteran players. Process: The meat of this display includes a team photo for each year--back to 1929--and a list of players new to the Bears broken down by year, along with each player's position. After an on-site meeting to determine the visual scale of the project, we were provided with an electronic file of introductory text and player names along with a stack of team photos to be scanned. The color choice was obvious--blue and orange. The dark blue background provides a good contrast for the team photos and the white text used for the player lists. Orange type was used for the year designation in the upper right corner of each team photo; orange was also included as an accent on the first panel. The end result was a wall display using a linear presentation of 36" x 36" panels protected by clear plexiglass. The last panel in the display is updated at the end of each football season; once the last panel is full, a new panel is added. Placement: This display was installed on the wall between the weight room and the locker room in Halas Hall, the Bears' headquarters and practice facility in Lake Forest, Illinois. We also designed and produced a similar display highlighting the Chicago Bears coaching staffs through the years. Photos are not part of this display, but the first panel features a striking watercolor portrait of founder/coach George S. Halas. |
