Issue 1 The first question I ask clients when we sit down to start on a project is, "Who is your target audience?" Who are you trying to communicate to? I mean really, who are they? What do they look like? What is their age, gender, income? What business are they in? What problems do they face? If you don't know who you are talking to, you're just talking. For true communication to take place there must be a sender and receiver. We sometimes forget this. We get caught up in the sending and forget about the receiving side of the equation. After all, you have this great message to get out; someone should want to hear it. It has been said, "If you don't have a target, you're sure to hit it." So if you shoot at no one, you'll hit no one. My guess is you want to hit someone with your message. You want to effectively communicate clearly and creatively to a specific someone. So stop for a moment and think. Who are you talking to? Who is your target audience? In the upcoming issues of "News You Can Use" we will look at some more key factors to creating effective communication tools. What can we do to help you?
