Newsletters are a great way to keep your employees up to date and informed of company policies and events.

A newsletter can also be a powerful marketing tool. A newsletter puts your name in front of your customers on a regular basis and positions you as an expert in your field.

A good newsletter provides useful information that is presented in a visually appealing manner. You want your readers to look forward to receiving it!

Bigger is not always better when it comes to a newsletter. It is good to give bite-sized pieces of useful information. An effective newsletter article is short and concise.

One element that can keep readers interested from issue to issue is a regular feature. A helpful tip, a message from the president of your organization, an employee-of-the-month column, or list of upcoming events would fall into the category of regular features.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Photos have a universal appeal and should be used whenever possible; however, most people overlook the importance of a well-written photo caption.

A good photo caption will describe more than what is immediately obvious by looking at the picture; it should add something to the story.

Instead of a generic caption that states the obvious such as: "Pictured here: John Jones." Try something that adds to the story like: "John Jones, Employee of the Month for February 2004, accepts a check for $1,000,000 from Bill Gates on board his corporate jet."

Photo captions should be exciting and informative. If a reader only has time to skim the newsletter, good quality, informative photos and captions should be able to communicate the essence of the story.

To be effective, a newsletter needs to be published on a regular basis. Publishing a monthly newsletter is the most beneficial, but even a quarterly newsletter can have impact.

A newsletter (or any other publication, for that matter) is made up of two major components: design and content. At Impact, we specialize in bringing these components together!
